Absolutely! It is critical to the entire community that we retain a good public elementary school in this facility! Sending our children to other schools only serves to overcrowd them. Further, to retain property values in our community we need to have a public elementary school in our neighborhood. Meadows has an outstanding academic track record. A conversion charter would only enhance what is currently in place - offering a seamless transition to our children. This is not an attack on the district. Everyone knows the difficulties the school board faces with the state making dramatic cuts to their budgets. This is a solution to their problem. rather than close the school and have parents move outside the district or to private schools, a charter school will keep kids in the district - feeling them into public middle schools and high schools. There is no cost to the public with this course of action. And while the school board is making plans to start magnet schools which will be a draw for the community, it takes a long time to become a magnet school. Charter can create a magnet environment with arts and technology immediately - becoming a school that will actually attract families to our community. It is win/win.

That would be wonderful. A great way to keep the neighborhood intact and save property values, as well as keeping the students in the district. A public Charter School would be a great addition to our public school system. They are planning on it being an arts and technology school which is going to bring fresh, innovative ideas to our elementary level students which they can take with them to our CVUSD middle schools and high schools. I also hear talk of partnering with the CVUSD on these ideas and possibly having some open after school programs to share with the other schools in the district. All around it seems like it would benefit everyone!

I am all for a community park as I have 2 young boys, but disagree with CRPDs decision to only put up ballfields and loud PA systems and 38 blaring light poles and nothing else, unless alot more money comes their way. There's a good chance they won't get more funds. I heartily agree with Steve McComas' letter to the editor of the 2/7/08 edition of the Thousand Oaks Acorn. It is imperative for all residents to read his letter, which is all factual. We need to make sure the residents are aware that they will not be putting in a park that ALL can enjoy...and that it will create nothing but traffic and traffic related accidents or deaths due to the parking situation. I don't understand why the Little League has to be now based in this proposed park. Why can't they stay using the facilities they have been using all these years?
